Background
On a hydropower site, drilling, grouting and hole cleaning often run at the same time with different pressure needs. One model for everything means either too little pressure or a throttled high-pressure unit wasting power — matching units to processes is more economical.
Challenge
Dam foundation and cavern works combined drilling, grouting and hole cleaning, with pressure needs from medium to fairly high.
Solution
The same 132 kW + 185 kW electric combination proven on another hydropower project: the DM185-26/21 for higher-pressure drilling and the DM138-23/19 for medium-pressure grouting and hole cleaning.
Results
Each process is supplied by the unit that matches its pressure, avoiding throttled high-pressure units; all electric, with no exhaust in the caverns. The combination has become a standard KayDrill choice for hydropower sites and ran steadily through the foundation and cavern works.
