Background
In Europe, ground-source heat pumps are becoming a key alternative to gas boilers. More new homes and renovations need vertical boreholes over 100 m deep in their own gardens — small sites close to residents, with high demands on emissions, noise and compliance.
Challenge
Vertical heat-exchange boreholes in housing estates and private gardens, typically 100–200 m deep, on tight sites next to homes. The European market has clear rules on emissions, noise and CE compliance, and aquifers are common, so enough pressure is needed to clear water and cuttings.
Solution
A Cummins-powered two-stage diesel unit: 24 bar to clear cuttings in aquifers and 29 m³/min to suit common hammers. Engines configured to the destination country's emission rules and supplied with CE compliance documents; an acoustic canopy reduces disturbance to residents; English operation and maintenance documents let the customer handle routine service.
Results
One unit covers the full depth of residential heat-pump boreholes, passed site compliance checks, and is now working on several residential projects in the area.
