Road construction

Rock cuts and city roads — flexible air wherever the work moves

Blast-hole drilling in mountain road cuts, slope work and urban road breaking — the unit moves with the working face

Help me choose

Typical challenges

01

Mountain cuts mean many blast holes and tight schedules; rigs must keep drilling

02

The face keeps moving and the unit is towed daily — chassis must be reliable

03

At altitude or in severe cold, diesel engines lose power

04

Urban roadworks face noise and exhaust limits and night-work restrictions

What compressed air does here

Blast-hole drilling

Blast-hole drilling

DTH rigs drill blast holes in cuts and embankments; air drives the hammer

Flushing the hole

Flushing the hole

High-pressure air blows rock dust out, keeping hole depth and charging quality

Cut-slope work

Cut-slope work

Anchor drilling and hole cleaning on cut slopes also depend on steady air

Recommended configuration

Typical hole size / depth / duty

Blast holes Ø90–115 mm, 6–15 m deep; breakers and paving breakers in town

Recommended pressure & air delivery

DTH rigs 1.7–2.4 MPa, 18–24 m³/min; breakers 0.7–0.8 MPa, 10–13 m³/min

Recommended models

Results

Dual-duty models switch pressure and flow between hard and soft rock, so one unit suits the whole route; the trailer chassis suits daily moves

Recommendations

  • At altitude, correct air flow and go one size up if needed
  • Check the drawbar, tyres and parking brake before every move
  • For night work in town choose a low-noise unit and keep it away from the breakers

Road construction — FAQ

What pressure do I need for road-cut blast holes?

+

Medium-pressure DTH rigs usually need 1.7–2.4 MPa; harder rock and deeper holes need more. Size to the hammer's rated pressure.

How many paving breakers can one compressor run?

+

A breaker uses about 1–1.5 m³/min, so a 10–13 m³/min unit typically runs 6–8, depending on hose length and losses.

What should I watch for on high-altitude roads?

+

Engines take in less air at altitude and lose power; choose the high-altitude intake option or go one size up by the derating factor.
